Argentina still savoring world cup win

Argentinians continue to hold the biggest celebrations at home a week after their national team's historic conquest of the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.

      Reports estimate that about five million people went to the streets of the nation's capital city of Buenos Aires to greet team captain Lionel Messi and the rest of the line-up including Gonzalo Montiel and goal keeper Emiliano Martinez.

     Images of the celebrations inundated Facebook, Twitter and Instagram the past three days -- scenes that are so inspiring to look at from far across the ocean.

     And it inspires us also to look back at the tournament. The final game betwee Argentina was indeed the greatest ever played in the history of the World Cup.

     For Messi it was a dream is come true. His mission for a first ever WC title after fivecattempts was accomplished in a terrific fashion. It was a fitting end to his illustrious career. His amazing performance throughout the tournament most especially in the finals has proved his deep  passion for the sport of soccer.

     Argentina dethroned defending champion France but the French must also be credited for their amazing fight.

     Gylian Mbappe, France team captain, pushed the game to the limit but there has to be a winner.

      Although, France lost Mbappe did not disappoint as he even tied the score in the extra time with a rare hattrick. 

     At 25, Mbappe has still a long way to go especially now that Messi, 35, has signified intention retire.

     Argentina won the 2022 Qatar World Cup by beating France decided by a penalty shootout (4-3) after a 3-3 draw at the Lusail Stadium. 

      For sure the celebrations will continue in Argentina for the rest of the year. They have all the reasons for that.

     For France, there will always be next time to look forward to.

The Philippines has solid support wherever Clarkson wants to go

I must say this. The whole  Philippines will support every move that Jordan Clarkson does in his NBA journey. He is well-loved here including yours truly.      The Filipinos' solid backing of him reciprocates his sincerest desires to represent the country in the world stage or any international tournament.       He already played for the  national team, Gilas Pilipinas, twice in the FIBA world and the Asian Games.     Through the years, the Lakers have a solid fan base from here but the Warriors got a piece of the piece starting from the dynasty era that was built around players like Stephen, Curry, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant, Dreymond Green and of course coach Steve Kerr. That I think is more applied to the younger generation of basketball fans who of course did not in anyway fully grasp the heydays of the vintage Lakers like Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Magic Johnson, James Worth and later the duo of Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Ne...

Wishing Westbrook to stay with Lakers

  Laker guard Russell Westbrook rebounds and scores on a fast break against the Nuggets. It's not that I am a Laker for life fan. But I like Russell Westbrook even before he wore the purple and gold jersey.       He should remain at Los Angeles. His game has been improving over the Lakers recent outings following their dismal 0-5 start this season.      I like Westbrook because of his razzle dazzle play. I like his all-around game.      In fact, Westbrook holds the all-time best record in triple-double with 196.     His last triple-double game was against Denver on Dec. 17, 2022. The Lakers beat Nuggets 126-108 with Westbrook closing out with 15 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists.      He almost did it again in their next won game on Dec 19 over the Wizards, 119-117, with his 9-8-9 finish but did not play in the team's next two games when they lost to Phoenix,130-104, on Dec 20 and to Sacramento, 134-120, on...
